Shining in the Rain

I stand upon this layered ground
Where my kindred sleep below
We once shared the same wish

No one recalls the seas of flame
That burned the woods and all the children
But I still remember

If they are weak, they could be held
If they are lacking, they could be given
But they’re too afraid to try

If they don’t know, they could just ask
If pain is heavy, it could be shared
But they’re ashamed to reach

Please teach them how to reach their hands
Light a way where none must hurt
Even if the sky is clear
Even if the birds all sing
Inside, the rain is falling still

I found some new friends here
Now I have someone by my side
Who looks up at the sky with me

They are here as well
With gentle smiles and quiet strength
Kind and steady warriors

This peaceful, ordinary life
Is proof they’ve won their hidden fights
They gave a place to someone like me

So I will fight, even now
Here within this time of calm

Just walking through these city streets
Brings a quiet peace to me
Seeing people live unafraid
That alone can make me smile

Even tiny shining things
Make my heart begin to race
The children laugh, but that’s okay
It’s the first time I have seen them

This world is beautiful

They are noble, shining bright
They won’t bow to selfish kings again

So please, everyone, be born here
I want to meet you someday soon
Let’s talk again beneath this sky
And look up at the blue together
